Finally, I think , it would be a great chance to meet new people and to learn about the different culture and lifestyle.

I would like to have the opportunity to get the scholarschip in Sydney to find some new experiences for the future .

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely

Mr Simms 2

Dear Mr Simms,

I am writing to apply for the scholaship which will be in Australia in two weeks time.

Firstly, I am interested in this trip because there will be an English Course for three months that will be an opportunity for me to study English in another country .
And also it is a great chance to meet other people , other cultures and to make friends. Going in Australia will help my English a lot because I will be in contact with people speaking with an accent that will open my mind and listening to people with a different accent.

I would really like to make this journey, it will be a great experience for me as have never been there before.

I am looking forward to hear from you.

Yours sincerely

Mr Simms 1

Dear Mr. Simms

I would like to be considered for the scholarship advertised on the notice board at City College Plymouth.

I am very interested in having a scholarship this year, because I have studied English more than six months and really enjoy that. Secondly I feel I am one of the best students in class. I am always involved in school tasks and I follow teacher’s instructions. Learning English is at the moment one of the most important aims for me.

I am very open to new experiences, besides travelling is my passion. Moreover I like meeting new people and visiting new countries. That boosts my life. I have excellent communications skills. In addition, I am interested in using my English skills in a new environment.

I would like the opportunity to develop my English Skills in Australia as part of the scholarship. I feel I could represent my college very well.

I am looking forward to hear from you.

Yours sincerely

Hi Messaouda.

How are you? It’s nice to hear from you. I am very happy to hear that you will come to Britain next year.. If you’re English is not very good it is difficult. I think when you first come here it is quite difficult to understand our language. But don’t worry it’s fine.

When I first came here and it was very difficult to understand English and then I went to school and learned English. So now I am speaking English very well.

In my college where I am studying this is a very nice college to learn English. Our teachers are very interesting they are very helpful and all students are passing their exams. So it’s a very nice college and you should join.

Please consider it good advice and follow it.
Good luck with this and don’t hesitate to contact me for further information.

Your friend

Messauoda 5

Hi Messaouda

How are you? Its really nice to hear from you and nice you are
coming to Brittan so you will contact the college as soon as possible when you are arrive here to get a space.

You have to study ESOL to learn English
because the life is too difficult in the UK if you do not speak English. For example you can’t by anything or you can’t go to the post office so that’s why you have to study English.

l remember when l
came to UK. l couldn’t speak and l couldn’t go anywhere. But l was studying at ESOL course
to learn English so now my English is very good and l am continuing to study. l am trying to make a good practice of my English all of the time and l am talking to English people very much to learn new words and to have a much more skill about the English
language .

So l hope when you are arrive here you can get a space at
college and learn English very soon.

See you soon

With love

Hi Messaouda

It’s fantastic that you are coming to Britain.

I’m not sure that my English is as good as you think, but is not so bad. I’m living here over two years. After coming to England I’ve learned a lot a home. Next I’ve joined English class at college. I can develop my skills in written and spoken English as well. Every half term I have to pass an exam which is good to verify some progress or not.

Because I’m living here I’ve got the opportunity to practice my English every day: in shops, on the bus, in offices, in my son’s school etc. Sometimes it isn’t easy when people cannot understand you and opposite, but you cannot give up. Now, after two years I’m feeling more confident than before.

Let me know when you plan to come here because I can book your place in the English class in advance.

I’d better get going, as I’m late for work.

Write soon what dates you are coming.

Take care

Messauoda 3

Hi Messaouda

It’s nice to know you are coming to Britain next year.

Don’t worry about a lot, learning English its much easier when you live here, because you need to speak and understand everyday what the people say and every day you learn more. You can go to school to improve your English . I think the most difficult is
the writing. I went to school four days a week and my teacher was very helpful and you can get free nursery for your
children .

I hope to see you soon.

Love

Messauoda 2

Hi Messauoda

I’m really glad to hear from you. I’m so happy that you are coming to Britain I can’t wait.

You asked me how I learned English. So, it wasn’t too difficult, I found a nice college in my city which I heard about from friends of mine. I went there to ask about English courses for me and next week I started my English lessons.

When I started my course I was thinking that English was very difficult especially English grammar. When you are writing you’ve got much more time to think, but in speaking I’ve done lots of grammar mistakes. In our language articles like a, an, the do not exist so it’s very difficult to remember about that. But don’t worry not everything is so difficult. When you are practicing English you stop thinking about grammar it’s starting to be automatic. You use words and sentences that you heard from others or found in the book. And every day you start to be more confident speaking with other people, what makes you feel really proud of yourself.

I hope that you will be enjoying your English lessons. I think that you can start learning English now. If you want I can send you some websites which you can use every day to learn some words and little bit of grammar.

Please let me now how your lessons are going. I would look for some course for you in my college. I can’t wait to see you here in England.

Have a nice day, write soon

Messauoda 1

Hello Messaouda ,

When I came to Britain I couldn’t speak and write and read
any thing , I started learning English . First
time it was too hard for me , because every thing was different with my language I found it very difficult .

I kept practicing English at college and my home I
always looked for new words ,and when I didn’t know what was the meaning of any word I
asked my teacher , hopefully my teacher would help me and answer all of my
questions. He told me what was good to do
to speak fluent English .

At the moment my English is not perfect and I think I will
never get perfect , because of spelling and I think it is not only me.
Most people have a problem with spelling ,I think the hardest thing to learn in English language is spelling .

You will probably learn English better then me ,coz you already know how to
speak English ,you will not have a lot of problems like I had .

I hope you will learn English very quickly .

See you soon ,,,
your mate

SAMPLE REPORT

ESE3
FALL SALIOU
MOHAMAD HASSAN

Introduction

The purpose of this report is
to examine sport and IT facilities of the college.

Sport facilities

First of all to have access in sport and CAT activities in the college you will have to pay the
20 pounds membership to do all activities that you want to do in the
college including the gym. This membership will
guarantee you one year of practice. There are a lot of activities which include:
basketball football kayaking and fitness for the body.

3-I.T

Secondly the IT facilities of the college are very good. There is a library which consists of 64
computers on which you can stay longer than 3 hours. In addition there is a study centre with about 35 computers.

4-Conclusion
I would recommend that you to pay for the membership card as soon as possible to have a free access to the CAT activities and to use the library as much as possible.

SAMPLE REPORT

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this report is to explain the different facilities offered by the college to the students.

FACILITIES

We made a team of 5 students and checked all the marketing and we found :
- Firstly the college offered courses which may develop skills like IT, Business formation, Engineering ,and English, aswell as other courses.

- In addition the college has support for disabled people in order for them to gain a qualification .

- Finally we found out that the college has also a leisure group called
CAT for all students even foreign students, which tries to encourage students to take part in sport, activities, dance etc.

CONCLUSION

The result shows that the college has many facilities like leisure , developing skills and learning and those facilities are very useful for the students .

RECOMMENDATIONS

We therefore recommend the college to keep these facilities and to add some more if possible.

SAMPLE REPORT

INTRODUCTION

The aim of this report is to summarize the best and worst aspects of the school.

THE PROBLEMS (THE WORST)

First of all, as there were twenty one of us in the class, we thought the class is not big enough for all of us. Secondly we need more time for the lesson and finally the college buses need to be more frequent.

POSITIVE FINDINGS (THE BEST)

We were pleased with ours teachers, as they were friendly and helpful. In the school restaurant we can buy a big meal for a small price. Secondly the library is organised and we can find all kinds of books, magazines and documentary tapes that we need. In addition the school provides child care for everyone who wants to enjoy the course at school and that means the young parents go back to school again.

SUMMARY

We therefore recommend that reducing the amount of students in the class and that the school provides more school buses. Otherwise we were satisfied with the school.

SAMPLE REPORT

●INTRODUCTION●

The aim of this report is to describe the College’s facilities.

●GOOD FACILITIES●

The Student Union can be very good for students with less financial possibilities. You can obtain low prices for different activities, like pool and you can bring your friends to play video games. You will have to pay the £20 membership to have a free access to these and other activities, like rock climbing, kayaking or football.

The library has got lots of computers (in fact about 64), books, CDs, DVDs and many useful things. There you can find the peace you need. It is a nice place for studying.

The college has a lot of shops where you can buy snacks, drinks, sandwiches you can even buy pens and notebooks.

●BAD FACILITIES●

The gym has old machines, which needs to be updated.

In the canteen the food is very good, except some people who eat only food from their countries.

●CONCLUSION●

In summary, the college has a good range of facilities, which are helpful for all students. In the future we would recommend investing in the gym and canteen.

SAMPLE REPORT

Name: Magdalena Zycinska, Agata Wodecka.

School: City College Plymouth.

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this report is to show what kind of facilities our
college has and show how we would like to improve it through our suggestions.

LEARNING FACILITIES

First of all, we would like to mention about the good furnishings in each
class. When it comes to computers, there are some almost in each
classroom. If you need to use a computer after a lesson you can go to the
library and there is access to the website as well.
In our college we have qualified and friendly teachers who are very
helpful and polite.

LEISURE FACILITIES

We have College Activity Team which you can join
for only £20 per year. Some of the activities include rock climbing, kayaking and drama.
You will also find a restaurant in the college where you can
eat lunch and talk with friends. AT the entrance you will also find the florist.

CONCLUSION

To sum up, my only suggestion would be doing something with the bus,
which is always late or full. However we would recommend our college as great
place to learn good things and spend a nice time

Thomas Edison inventor of electricity and the light bulb

Thomas Alva Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan. Ohio, the seventh and the last child of Samuel and Nancy Edison.

Edison had a very little education as a child, attending school for a few months. He was good at writing, reading and arithmetic, but was always a very curious child and thought himself much by reading on his own. When he grow up he red a lot of scientific and technical books, and also had the opportunity at this time how to operate a telegraph.

The first great invention developed by Thomas Edison was the telegraph and after few years ago he invented electric light, but he did not ‘’invent’’ light bulb, improved upon a 50-year-old idea. The idea of electricity was not new, many people worked on that. Edison’s eventual achievement was inventing not just an electric lighting system that contained all the element necessary to make the light safe, practical and economical. After one and a half years ago the lamp burned for thirteen and a half hour.

Moreover, the invention of electricity had a consequence for the next few years when the world started to evolve.

new course

Hi Jane,

Thanks for your last letter and I'm really sorry I couldn't write earlier because I have so much to do. It was interesting to hear about school life in your home town. In your letter you asked me to tell you about my nearest visit to England. As you already known I'm planning to go to England to study and improve my English skills. I'm interested in doing a bilingual course for translation. It means that in the future I will be a translator.

I rang to the City College Plymouth for some details about this course and they let me know about it everything what I wanted to know besides location. I found out that bilingual course takes me one year and will give more opportunities for the future.
I need to have A-level from English, it's great because I have got one!

I don't know much about location. That reminds me you study in Plymouth and you know much more about this town than I know. Could you find out about room to let or flat. I'm thinking about living in a host family as well but I don't know if you have one in Plymouth.

I'd better get going. I can't wait our meeting.

See you soon,
Magda

Perhaps you know somebody who is doing some of this courses and can tell me something about it? Could you do something for me? Hi Rebaz

How are you (doing)? How is everything going? I am happy to tell you about my course I've been planning this for a long time I want to take up a science classes in Portsmouth! What's cool is that I don't want to join a common class but a group of people that expresses itself through the science. I'd love to have your opinion about this course l choose. Just check the prices well and give me the schedule of each place.

I guess the best place to stay is getting a cheaper rented house but if you've got a better idea, let me know. I think I'll stay for six months; the problem is that I'm not sure if I can afford it. That’s one of the things. So you know Portsmouth city everything is so expensive! It'd be fantastic if you could search for the appropriate science classes in the city for me.

Ok, take care and see you soon!

Dear Sir or Madam

We are writing to complain about the poor service of the no.36 bus service which goes to City College Plymouth.

Firstly, we are very disappointed because the service you provide is not sufficient. The bus which goes to City College is always late and it does not have enough space for all the people who wait for the bus. That is why you have to provide more buses for students to City College Plymouth. In addition the most important thing for me is that the bus does not stop at the places where it should stop. Finally, one bus driver is very arrogant and rude with the students.

We would like you to consider the effectiveness of the service and your choice of driver.

We are looking forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

Shoes Complaint

Dear Sir or Madam

I am writing to complain about the shoes I bought in your shop.

Two weeks ago I used your website and I bought a pair of shoes. Firstly, I received my order one week late. In addition the size and the colour were not right. I ordered a size eight, but I received a (size) six , and you sent me brown instead of black. This is not acceptable. Finally, the shoes were too small and I could not wear them.

I would like you to send me the right size and the right colour or a full refund .

Yours faithfully

Gosia and Joelle.

Gym Complaint

Dear Sir or Madam.

We are writing to complain about the gym in your college.

Firstly, we registered in your gym and we paid the membership which was £20 for the year. After that we saw that the opening hours of your gym were often wrong. This was because we followed the open hours of the gym and it was closed at these times. So we had to pay for another gym which was £50 weekly and we used it for a month.

In addition some machines in the gym were worn out and unavailable to use.

Finally, we wasted a lot of time waiting outside the gym door but we could not use the gym.

We would like you to give us a full refund.

Complaint

Dear Sir or Madame

We are writing to complain about the train journey which we made on 1st. July.

We bought train tickets from Peterborough 17.30 to Newcastle 20.15. Firstly, our train was late half an hour. We arrived after 10 pm (about 2 hours late) so we could not stay in guesthouse because door was locked. Finally, we had to pay extra money -£120 per night to stay somewhere else. For us students it was too expensive.

We would like compensation for the problems we had as a result the very poor train service.

Yours faithfully

Gislaine, Wilsa, Gosia

Fairtrade

I have always looked on this from the top,

I have never believed this stuff,

But my teacher opens my eyes

On ways of life, now I know

How can I help every single day

This poem is from our hearts,

LISTEN!

I slide the door and smell beautiful fragrance of something

I couldn’t believe

And say ‘’ What is that?’’

Fruits ‘’Fairtrade’’ he said.

You have to try

You can stabilise someone's life!
